Ellen Gould White über: "The nature of God and its manifestation"
Answer
God is a personal being and not merely a physical principle or an all‑pervading energy, and man was originally created in His image. Since the finite human mind cannot fully comprehend the infinity of God and speculation about His nature is futile, He has most clearly revealed Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. While nature does reflect God’s character, love, and power, it is not God Himself, but merely an expression of His thoughts.
The limitation of human understanding
»‘The mysteries belong to the Lord, our God.’ The revelation of Himself, which God has given in His Word, is intended for our study. We may seek to understand this. But beyond that we should not press forward. The highest intellect may strive until it is exhausted in conjectures about the nature of God; yet the effort will be fruitless. This problem was not given to us for solution. No human mind can comprehend God. May the finite man not attempt to interpret Him.«
God as a personal being
»The mighty power that works throughout all nature and sustains all things is not, as some scientists claim, merely an all‑pervading principle, a driving energy. God is a spirit, and yet He is a personal being, because our first parents were created in His image. As a personal being, God has revealed Himself in His Son.«
Distinction between God and nature
»God's workmanship in nature is not God Himself in nature. The things of nature are an expression of God's character; through them we can understand His love, His power, and His glory; but we must not regard nature as God. ... Thus nature is indeed an expression of God's thoughts, but not the nature, rather the God of nature should be exalted.«
Christ as the image of God
»God saw that a clearer revelation than nature was needed to display both His personality and His character. He sent His Son into the world to, as far as human sight could bear, reveal the nature and attributes of the invisible God.«
The danger of presumption
»Man cannot find God through research. No one should attempt with measured hand to lift the veil that hides His glory. ‘His judgments are unsearchable and His ways unfathomable!’ It is a proof of His grace that His power remains hidden; for lifting the veil that conceals the divine presence means death.«
