Adventistische Schriften über: "The cooling of love in the last days"
Answer
In the last days, the cooling of love is a direct consequence of the increase of iniquity and conformity to worldly practices within the church. Many professed followers of Christ immerse themselves in earthly interests with such intensity that their spiritual life becomes cold and formal, assuming an appearance of piety but denying its effectiveness. This decline occurs because believers do not remain separated from sin, even participating in it, which extinguishes their zeal and fervor for God.
Worldliness and the loss of love
»The same spirit of selfishness, of conformity to the practices of the world, exists in our days as it did in the days of Noah. Many who profess to be children of God pursue their worldly activities with an intensity that contradicts their profession... Because iniquity abounds, the love of many cools.«
The cooling among professed followers
»It has been shown to me that we live amid the dangers of the last days. Because iniquity abounds, the love of many cools. The word “many” refers to the professed followers of Christ. They are affected by the prevailing iniquity and drift away from God... The fact that their love for God is cooling... shows that they are, in a sense, participants in this iniquity.«
The appearance of piety without power
»Here is a catalogue of sixteen sins, all of them concerning those who have a form of piety. It is not about common infidels and worldly sinners... but about men and women who profess to be followers of Jesus Christ. And although they make a profession of piety as high as the heavens, they are covered with popular sins. And because of their example, and their icy influence, many are turned away from the humble path to heaven, and their love becomes cold.«
Trials and apostasy in the church
»“And because wickedness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.” The very atmosphere is contaminated by sin. Soon the people of God will be tested by trials of fire, and a great proportion of those who now appear genuine and true will turn out to be vile metal.«
Iniquity within the churches
»Do you, reader, say that the iniquity mentioned here is not in the churches, but in the world? Then we respond that, in that case, its influence would be to lead churches to greater piety. But in this case, the love of many cools, showing that this iniquity abounds in the very heart of the churches.«
