Adventistische Schriften über: "Submission of Woman and Man in Marriage – Ellen White Teaching"

Answer

According to Ellen White, marriage is a partnership on equal footing, in which the woman stands as an equal companion beside the man. A “complete submission” belongs to Christ alone; the woman’s submission to her husband must never violate her conscience, her individuality, or her responsibility before God.

When the husband is guided by Christ, his role as head of the family is not that of a dictator, but that of a servant who loves and uplifts his wife, just as Christ loves the church. Autocratic rule or the suppression of the woman’s will contradict God’s plan for marriage.

Equality and Limits of Submission

»The wife should stand as an equal beside her husband and share all life responsibilities... When the Spirit of Christ controls the husband, the woman’s submission will result only in peace and blessing, for he will require from her only that which leads to good... The woman should always keep before her eyes the fear and the glory of God. Complete submission is to be given only to the Lord Jesus Christ... Her individuality cannot be subsumed into that of her husband, for she belongs to Christ.«

Warning Against Arbitrary Rule

»It is a mistake to imagine that she must, with blind devotion, do exactly what her husband says in all matters, when she knows that doing so would harm her body and spirit... When husbands demand total subjection of their wives and declare that women have no voice or will in the family, they place their wives in a position that contradicts Scripture. This interpretation is made only so they can exercise arbitrary rule, which is not their prerogative.«

The Husband's Role as Servant and Protector

»Let every husband and father study to understand the words of Christ, not one‑sidedly by lingering only on the woman’s submission, but in the light of the Golgotha cross, study his own position within the family. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her.” ... He will not try to break the will and judgment of his wife.«

Respect for the Woman's Individuality

»Her individuality should be preserved when she seeks to glorify God with her body and spirit... She has duties toward God into which you have no right to intervene. God has claims on her that you cannot fulfill... You have no right to impose rules on your wife as you would on a child.«
