Adventistische Schriften über: "Strong aversion to Bible reading"
Answer
A dislike or lack of interest in Bible reading stems, among other things, from the fact that it is not natural for the human heart to love the Bible unless it has been renewed by God's grace. Moreover, the consumption of novels, fictional stories, and superficial reading dulls the mind and creates a resistance to the serious truths of God's Word. When the Scripture is neglected, the desire for it wanes even further, while regular, sincere study strengthens the love for biblical truth.
Causes of aversion to Bible study
»Whoever yields to the temptation that constantly lies before him soon loses the taste for substantial reading. Such people have no interest in Bible study. Their moral strength is weakened. Sin appears to them increasingly less repulsive. There is a growing unfaithfulness and a rising resistance to the practical duties of life. […] Writings that may not be so obviously misleading and corrupting should still be avoided if they provoke an aversion to the study of the Bible. This Word is the true manna.«
Loss of interest in the Word of God through secular reading
»For some, the Word of God is uninteresting. The reason is that they have been so long immersed in the seductive stories of contemporary literature that they no longer have a taste for reading God's Word or for religious exercises. This reading renders the mind incapable of receiving sound biblical principles and living out practical piety. […] Those who see nothing interesting in the Word of God are still in their sins and are allied with Satan, who controls their mind and thoughts.«
The natural inclination of the heart and renewal through grace
»I do not command you to read the Bible—I will never do that. I want you to read the Bible because you love it, not because you are compelled to, for then it becomes an unpleasant duty. However, if you neglect Bible reading, you will lose the love for it. […] It is not natural for the heart to love the Bible; but if it is renewed by grace, the mind will graze on the rich truths and promises contained in the Word of God.«
How invented stories stifle the taste for truth
»What a mass of fabricated reading exists in the world, filling the mind with fantasies and follies and thereby creating an aversion to the words of truth and righteousness! The mind is thus rendered unsuitable for serious thoughts and for the patient, persistent study of the Scripture, which is the guidebook through which you are to be led to God's paradise.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
