What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Should one not marry if it harms the present truth?"
Answer
It is advisable to forgo marriage if it would harm the work of the present truth or cast a blemish on the cause of God. God's concern should be more precious to the believer than one's own life, and one's own willpower must be subordinated to God's will. If a union lacks God's blessing and instead hinders spiritual development, preserving the faith is more important than fulfilling personal desires.
The cause of truth stands above personal bonds
»If there were no difficulties and George could marry her according to the laws of the land without violating God's law, he should still not do so if it would harm the cause of the present truth. This cause should be more precious to him than life itself; and if through marriage he would bring a stain upon the cause of God, his wife is dearly bought, and he cannot be happy, for God's blessing will not accompany him. ... He must die to the self. The self must be sacrificed. ... His own will must yield and be subordinated to God's will.«
Danger to spiritual work through unwise marriages
»God's work has been hindered by unwise marriages. Satan will use every means to cause young men who could teach the truth to enter into marital relationships that thwart God's purpose. He will try to lower the standard of spirituality and holiness so that the congregation is not a living, working church.«
Better to remain unmarried than risk eternal life
»He feels that it would be better to remain unmarried than to bind his life's interest to someone who chooses the world instead of Jesus and would lead away from the cross of Christ. ... Will you, who profess to choose Christ as your Lord and be obedient to Him in all things, unite your interests with someone who is ruled by the Prince of the powers of darkness? "Can two walk together unless they are united?«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
