What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Should a Christian vote and engage politically, or refrain from doing so?"
Answer
According to the available writings, Christians – especially preachers and believers – should stay away from politics and political disputes, because involvement in worldly affairs sows discord and distracts from the true spiritual mission. Christ Himself refused to intervene in political and secular controversies, and instead focused entirely on the salvation of people and the proclamation of biblical truths. Believers are called to keep their Christian influence separate from politics, and to devote their time and talents wholly to the work of God.
Separation from Politics and Political Dispute
»There is a great vineyard to be tended; yet while Christians are to work among the unbelieving, they must not act like worldly people. They should not spend their time discussing politics or acting as politicians, for by doing so they give the enemy an opportunity to come in and sow division and discord. Those in the preaching ministry who wish to appear as politicians should have their credentials withdrawn; for this work has not been given by God to either the high or the low among His people. ... His children should separate themselves from politics and from any alliance with unbelievers. They must not link their interests with the interests of the world. ... Do not involve yourselves in political disputes. Separate yourselves from the world and refrain from bringing ideas into the congregation or school that would lead to conflict or disorder.«
Keeping the Preaching Ministry Free from Political Matters
»Gospel preachers should keep their ministry free from all worldly or political matters and devote all their time and talents within the scope of Christian endeavors.«
The Example of Jesus Regarding Political and Temporal Issues
»Time and again Christ was asked to decide on legal and political questions. Yet He refused to involve Himself in temporal affairs. He knew that there were unjust practices and great tyranny in the political world. But His sole exposure of these matters was the proclamation of biblical truth. To the great crowds that followed His steps, He presented the pure, holy principles of God's law and spoke of the blessing that lies in obedience to these principles. With authority from above He emphasized the importance of justice and mercy. Yet He refused to become entangled in personal disputes.«
Avoidance of Politics and Secular Offices
»Your relationships with the world must be changed, and a decisive separation must take place. The positions you assume that constantly open doors to temptation must be relinquished. Avoid politics; avoid disputes. Stay away from any office that would foster traits in your character that need to be fought and overcome.«
