Adventistische Schriften über: "Self-knowledge and the Relationship with God"
Answer
An honest self‑knowledge and examination of conscience are essential for a vibrant relationship with God, because they bring before us our own weakness and total dependence on Him. When we ask God in prayer to search our hearts and show us how we stand before His eyes, the self steps into the background and Christ becomes everything in all things. By laying aside and cleansing through this insight everything that hinders fellowship with God, we draw nearer to Him and can grow spiritually.
Recognizing Oneself in the Light of Eternity
»We must open Christ's heart. We need a much firmer faith and a much deeper devotion. We must die to the self and nurture in mind and heart a worship‑like love for our Redeemer. When we seek the Lord with our whole heart, we will find Him, and our hearts will be completely filled with His love. The self will sink into insignificance, and Jesus will be everything and all‑the‑more to the soul... You who love to speak about the faults of others, awaken and look into your own hearts. Take your Bibles and go to God in earnest prayer. Ask Him to teach you to recognize yourself, to understand your weakness, your sins, and your foolishness in the light of eternity. Ask Him to show you yourselves as you stand before Heaven. This is a personal work.«
Exploring the Heart Leads to God's Nearness
»The true Christian gazes unceasingly upon the One who searches the heart and tests the kidneys, who demands hidden truth. His constant prayer is: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts! And see whether any evil way is in me, and lead me on the eternal path!”... Not without purpose does God send trials to His children... He subjects them to discipline in order to humble them and, through testing and affliction, lead them to recognize their weakness and draw nearer to Him.«
Examination of Conscience for Restoring Fellowship with God
»A thorough examination of the self should take place morning and evening. Scrupulously explore the heart, and you will find many imperfections that can and should be cleansed. Lay aside everything that hinders fellowship with God. Christ says: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” To lay down the necessary confession may require great willpower. It may feel like a crucifixion to say, “I have committed this wrongdoing and sinned against God.”«
Recognizing Our Own Lowliness and Dependence on God
»We will advance in true spiritual understanding only to the extent that we recognize our own lowliness and our total dependence on God; but all who approach the Bible with a learned and prayerful spirit, studying its statements as the Word of God, will receive divine illumination.«
The Necessity of Self‑knowledge for Attaining True Wisdom
»...but the most important lesson you still need to learn, which concerns your eternal welfare, is to know yourself, to recognize your weakness and your folly. If you can see that you are poor, wretched, blind and naked, then you will begin to become wise.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
