Adventistische Schriften über: "Sanctuary"
Answer
The sanctuary, according to biblical understanding, is the dwelling place of God, consisting of the tabernacle erected by Moses and later the temple in Jerusalem, as well as the actual temple of God in heaven. It forms the center of Christ's work of redemption and clarifies the entire plan of salvation up to the end of time. While the earthly sanctuary served as a model, the true ministry of Christ now takes place in the heavenly sanctuary.
Definition and Location of the Sanctuary
In response to the question, "The sanctuary – what is it?" the answer was clearly found. It is not the earth, not the land of Palestine, not the congregation; but, as revealed to us in the Scriptures, it is first the dwelling that the Lord provides for Himself here among people, in Moses’ tabernacle and later in the temple of Jerusalem; and second we see it as the temple of God in heaven, His dwelling place in the heights.
The Center of the Work of Redemption
The heavenly sanctuary is the true center of Christ’s work for humanity. It concerns every soul that lives on earth. It opens the view of the plan of redemption, leads us to the end of time, and reveals the triumphant outcome of the battle between righteousness and sin.
God’s Dwelling Among People
The definition of the word "sanctuary" is a "holy or consecrated place"; and according to this revealed purpose of God, it must now be added: "the dwelling place of the Most High." As far as its use in the Scriptures is concerned, it is therefore to be regarded, while it was here on earth, as the visible dwelling of God among people.
From the Earthly to the Heavenly Sanctuary
This sanctuary was a shadow or a model of the heavenly sanctuary; and the service was planned by the Lord so that the entire work was a type or a representation of the work that the Son of God would do on earth and in heaven for the redemption of the lost race. It was the most wonderful illustrative lesson ever given to humanity.
Christ as High Priest in the True Sanctuary
At the right hand of God, on the throne of God, as priest on His throne, Christ is a "servant of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that the Lord has erected and not a man." This is an eternal component of the Christian faith.
