Adventistische Schriften über: "Sabbath – a command from the New Testament to keep the Sabbath; Jesus, the apostles, and the Sabbath law."

Answer

The New Testament confirms the continuing validity of the Sabbath command, as Jesus explicitly taught that He did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. The apostles and the early Christians kept the seventh day according to the command, and there is no biblical evidence for the abolition or transfer of Sabbath rest to Sunday in the New Testament. Since God's law is unchangeable, the fourth commandment as part of the Ten Commandments remains binding for all people in the Christian era of salvation.

Jesus and the Constancy of the Law

»The testimony to this was given by the Lord Jesus first in His Sermon on the Mount. He says: 'Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.' Therefore we believe that He did not abolish them; consequently they are still in force. He adds that not 'one jot or one stroke of the law shall pass away until all is fulfilled.' Therefore none of His precepts will cease before the others. And this shall not happen 'until heaven and earth pass away.' Hence we say that God's law extends through the age of the Gospel until the end.«

The Practice of the Apostles and the Burden of Proof

»The Jews never accused Paul of deviating from the letter of the Sabbath law. This is strong evidence that he kept it strictly. We all know: Had the apostle taught its abolition, the Jews would have accused him of Sabbath-breaking; for they were seeking charges against him. Thus we see the holy Sabbath taught both in the New and Old Testament. Wherever God's commandments are taught and reinforced in the New Testament, the Sabbath is also taught and reinforced, for the simple reason that the Sabbath law is one of the Ten Commandments.«

The Sabbath Command Requires No Reinstatement

»The fourth commandment was given by God the Father at the same time and under the same circumstances as the precept 'You shall have no other gods before Me.' Therefore, as long as its abolition is not proven, it remains in force as the Father's command and requires no re‑enactment, just as the precepts: You shall have no other gods before Me; you shall not make for yourself an image; you shall not misuse the name, etc.«

The New Testament Did Not Change the Law

»The New Testament has not changed God's law. The holiness of the Sabbath of the fourth commandment stands as firm as the throne of Jehovah. John writes: 'Whoever sins also does wrong; and sin is the wrong [the transgression of the law].' ... We are authorized to hold those in the same esteem as the beloved disciple, who claim to remain in Christ and be sanctified while they live in transgression of God's law.«

Sabbath Rest After the Burial of Jesus

»And they turned back and prepared spices and ointments; and they rested on the Sabbath according to the command. But on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb and brought the spices they had prepared.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
