Adventistische Schriften über: "Romans 3:28: How should I understand this?"

Answer

Romans 3:28 means that a person is declared righteous before God through faith, not by earning God’s acceptance through keeping the law. The commentaries explain that all people have sinned and therefore depend on God’s grace. Faith is not an achievement that earns salvation, but trust in Jesus Christ and what he has done for us. This does not make good works unimportant: according to the quotations, they are the fruit of faith, not the basis of justification.

Justification by faith alone

»“Therefore we conclude that a person is justified by faith without the works of the law.” For there is no other means by which he could be justified! […] No one can ever become so good and strong that his own deeds could justify him.«

Faith trusts in Christ

»Faith is the condition upon which God has seen fit to promise pardon to sinners; not that there is any virtue in faith by which salvation is deserved, but because faith can lay hold of the merits of Christ, the remedy provided for sin. […] When the sinner believes that Christ is his personal Savior, then, according to His unfailing promises, God pardons his sin and justifies him freely.«

Good works grow out of faith

»Grace is unmerited favor, and the believer is justified without any merit of his own, without any claim he could make upon God. He is justified through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, who stands in the courts of heaven as the sinner’s substitute and surety. Yet while he is justified because of Christ’s merit, he is not free to do wrong. Faith works through love and purifies the soul. Faith buds, blossoms, and yields a harvest of precious fruit. Where there is faith, good works appear.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
