Adventistische Schriften über: "Revelation 16, the fourth bowl poured out on the sun – background and significance in the battle between good and evil from an Adventist perspective."

Answer

The fourth plague of Revelation 16 describes a time when the sun is given the power to scorch people with great heat. This judgment occurs after the close of the time of grace, when Christ’s intercession in the heavenly sanctuary has ended and the unmixed wrath of God strikes the world. While the ungodly suffer under the heat and blaspheme God without repenting, the righteous are protected from these extreme plagues by God’s promises.

The nature of the fourth plague and its devastating heat

»In the ensuing plague the sun is given the power to "burn people with fire, and the people were burned by great heat." ... The prophets describe the condition of the earth in this dreadful time as follows: "The land mourns; … for the harvest of the field is spoiled." "All the trees of the field have withered; for joy has withered among the children of man." "The seed is rotting in its husks, the storehouses stand desolate." "How the cattle groan! The herds are distressed because they have no pasture… The streams are dried up, and the fire has consumed the valleys of the desert.«

Increase of suffering in the final conflict

»The fourth plague ignites the sun with an unusual flame. Vegetation withers under its scorching rays; the streams evaporate; the heat burns down to the bones of people; and a breath of desolation spreads over the face of nature. Thus, under these plagues the sufferings of humanity increase in a regular sequence: first sores; then, as a result, fever and thirst; then blood to quench that thirst; and finally blazing, dazzling, unbearable heat from a sun set ablaze.«

Wrath without mercy after the intercession ends

»When Christ ends His intercession in the sanctuary, the unmixed wrath that has been threatened against those who worship the beast and its image and receive its mark will be poured out. The plagues on Egypt, when God sought to deliver Israel, were in character similar to those more terrible and comprehensive judgments that will fall immediately before the final deliverance of God’s people over the world. ... In the subsequent plague the sun is given power to "burn people with fire, and the people were burned by great heat.«

Distinction between the righteous and the ungodly

»These fires have destroyed the life and property of all classes, whether good or evil; but when the plagues are poured out, only the ungodly suffer, while the righteous remain unharmed. "Only with your eyes will you see and behold how the ungodly are repaid. For the Lord is your confidence, the Most High is your refuge; no evil will befall you, and no plague will draw near to your house.«

Hardening of hearts despite the torments

»And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given power to scorch people with fire. And the people were scorched by great heat and blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues, and did not repent to give Him honor." ... The burning of fire amid their distress will be most terribly dreadful.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
