Ellen White makes clear that politeness, culture, and fine manners do not automatically mean that someone belongs to Christ. If these gifts are not consecrated to God, they can be misused by the adversary. Thus a person with a pleasant demeanor and an educated mind can still be a polished tool in Satan’s hands.

Politeness and fine manners as Satan’s tools

»Many hold the view that everything that appears as politeness or refinement must in some way belong to Christ. There has never been a greater error. These qualities should adorn the character of every Christian, for they would exert a powerful influence in favor of the true religion; but they must be consecrated to God, otherwise they are also a power for evil. Some person of educated mind and pleasant manners, who would not stoop to what is commonly regarded as immoral behavior, is nevertheless only a polished tool in Satan’s hands. The treacherous, deceptive character of his influence and example makes him a more dangerous enemy of the cause of Christ than those who are ignorant and uneducated.«
