Ellen Gould White über: "Quote Ellen White: If someone rejects the Holy Spirit, they will not change their mind anymore."
Answer
If a person deliberately rejects the Holy Spirit, they interrupt the channel through which God can communicate with the heart. This continual rejection of light leads to a hardening of the heart and a dulling of spiritual perception, until the distinction between truth and error becomes impossible. In this state the person is ultimately left to Satan's control, making repentance virtually impossible for humanity.
The Danger of Deliberate Rejection of the Holy Spirit
What constitutes the sin against the Holy Spirit? It means deliberately attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to Satan. ... When people willfully reject the Spirit and claim it is from Satan, they interrupt the channel through which God can communicate with them. By denying the evidence that God graciously has given them, they shut out the light that shone in their hearts, and as a result they remain in darkness.
God does not blind people's eyes or harden their hearts. He sends them light to correct their errors and guide them onto safe paths; only through the rejection of this light are the eyes blinded and the heart hardened. ... When a ray of light is disregarded, a partial numbing of spiritual perception occurs, and the second revelation of light is perceived less clearly. Thus darkness increases until there is night in the soul.
God speaks to people through His servants, gives admonitions and warnings, and corrects sin. He gives everyone the opportunity to correct their mistakes before they become firmly entrenched in character; but if someone refuses to be corrected, divine power does not intervene to counteract the tendency of their own actions. ... He hardens his heart against the influence of the Holy Spirit. Further rejection of the light brings him to a point where even a far stronger influence will remain ineffective.
Are there not many, even religious leaders, who harden their hearts against the Holy Spirit and thereby make it impossible to recognize God's voice? Do they not reject God's word in order to preserve their own traditions?
Those who reject the spirit of truth place themselves under the control of a spirit that opposes the word and work of God. ... Their resistance to accepting all the light that God sends will, after some time, bring them to a place where they perform the work of a false guardian.
People cannot reject the warnings that God sends them in His mercy without consequence. From those who persistently turn away from these warnings, God withdraws His Spirit and leaves them to the deceptions they love.
