Call to Prayer and Action in the End Times

»It is our duty, as we see the signs of imminent danger, to awaken to action. No one should remain in quiet expectation of evil and console themselves with the belief that this work must progress because prophecy foretold it, and that the Lord will protect His people. We do not do God’s will if we remain idle and do nothing to preserve freedom of conscience. Fervent, effective prayer should rise to heaven so that this disaster is postponed until we can accomplish the work that has long been neglected. Let the most earnest prayer prevail, and then let us act in harmony with our prayers. It may seem as if Satan is triumphing and truth is being crushed by falsehood and error; but God wants us to remember His deeds with His people in the past, to rescue them from their enemies. He has always chosen extreme cases when there seemed no possible chance of rescue from Satan’s work, in order to reveal His power. Human distress is God’s opportunity. It may be that a further deadline is granted to God’s people to awaken and let their light shine. If the presence of ten righteous men had saved the godless cities of the plain, is it not possible that God, in answer to the prayers of His people, would still withhold the effectiveness of those who nullify His law? Should we not humble our hearts deeply before God, flee to the throne of grace, and ask Him to reveal His mighty power?«

God’s Work Advances Despite Threats to Religious Freedom

»The influence of these messages has deepened and expanded, setting the sources of action in thousands of hearts in motion and giving rise to schools, publishing houses, and health institutions. All these are God’s instruments to participate in the great work depicted by the first, second, and third angels—the work of warning the inhabitants of the world that Christ will return a second time with power and great glory. Now, right now, is our time to work in foreign lands. If America, the land of religious freedom, aligns with the papacy to compel conscience and force people to honor the false Sabbath, people of every nation on earth will follow its example. Our people are not half awake to do everything within their power, with the facilities at their reach, to spread the warning message. The Lord, the God of heaven, will not bring His judgments upon the world because of disobedience and transgression until He has sent His watchers to give the warning. He will not close the time of grace until the message has been proclaimed more clearly. God’s law is to be glorified; its claims must be presented in their true, holy character so that the people can decide for or against the truth. Yet the work is shortened in righteousness. The message of Christ’s righteousness should sound from one end of the earth to the other to prepare the Lord’s way. This is the glory of God that concludes the work of the third angel.«

The Seal of God versus the Beast’s Mark

»No one will suffer God’s wrath until truth has been brought near to his mind and conscience and has been rejected. Many never had the opportunity to hear the special truths for this time. The obligation of the fourth commandment was never presented to them in its true light. He who reads every heart and examines every motive will not allow anyone who seeks knowledge of truth to be led into error regarding the contentious issues of the conflict. The decree must not be imposed blindly on the people. Everyone should have sufficient light to make an intelligent decision. The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty; for it is the point of truth that is especially contested. When the final test comes upon people, a dividing line will be drawn between those who serve God and those who do not. While observing the false Sabbath in obedience to the state’s law, contrary to the fourth commandment, is a declaration of loyalty to a power opposed to God, sanctifying the true Sabbath in obedience to God’s law is proof of loyalty to the Creator. While one class, by accepting the sign of subjection to earthly powers, receives the beast’s mark, the other, by choosing the sign of loyalty to divine authority, receives the seal of God. So far, those who have presented the truths of the third angel’s message have often been regarded as mere alarmists. Their predictions that religious intolerance would gain control in the United States, that church and state would unite to persecute those who keep God’s commandments, were presented as baseless and absurd. It was confidently asserted that this country could never become anything other than it has been, the defender of religious freedom. But as the question of enforcing Sunday sanctification is widely discussed, the event long doubted and deemed unbelievable draws near, and the third message will produce an effect it could not have previously.«
