Adventistische Schriften über: "Paul's understanding of his mission in prison according to Colossians 4"

Answer

According to Colossians 4, Paul understood his mission in prison as the proclamation of the “mystery of Christ,” for which he was in chains. He earnestly asked the congregation for prayers that God might open a “door of proclamation” for him to make this mystery known, as he was to speak. His imprisonment did not hinder his mission – rather, his influence grew even larger and more lasting through letters and sent workers.

Paul's request for a door of proclamation

»“Also pray for us that God may open a door of proclamation for us to proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, so that I may make it known, as I ought to speak.” Here the task of the church members is shown. Instead of letting Satan lead them to think ill of and speak badly about those who bear heavy responsibility under difficult circumstances, they should ask God to give them words for those who do not know the truth.«

Influence through the chains

»Not through Paul's sermons, but through his chains the court's attention was drawn to Christianity. As a prisoner he freed many souls from the chains that held them in the slavery of sin. And that was not all. He declared: “Many of the brothers in the Lord have become confident through my chains and speak the Word of God all the more boldly without fear.”«

Seemingly cut off, yet more effective

»Thus Paul, although apparently cut off from active work, exercised a broader and more lasting influence than if he had traveled freely among the congregations as in earlier years. As a prisoner of the Lord he had a firmer grasp on the affections of his brothers; and his words, written by one who was in chains for the sake of Christ, commanded greater attention and respect than when he was personally among them.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
