The Holy Spirit is poured out at the beginning of the time of tribulation, while Christ is still mediating in the heavenly sanctuary, in the form of the “late rain”. This spiritual refreshment serves to give power to the loud proclamation of the third angel and to prepare the believers for the time of the seven last plagues. Only those who have previously prepared themselves by overcoming sin and selfishness will be able to partake in this outpouring.
The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the Time of Tribulation
The “beginning of that time of tribulation” mentioned here does not refer to the time when the plagues are poured out, but to a brief period shortly before, while Christ is still in the sanctuary... At that time the “late rain” or the refreshment will come from the face of the Lord to give power to the loud voice of the third angel and to prepare the saints to endure the period when the seven last plagues are poured out.
And at the beginning of the time of tribulation we were filled with the Holy Spirit as we went out and proclaimed the Sabbath even more fully... At that time God's chosen ones clearly saw that we had the truth, and they came out and endured persecution with us.
I saw that many neglected the necessary preparation and waited for the time of the “refreshment” and the “late rain” to make themselves fit to stand on the day of the Lord... I saw that no one could partake in the “refreshment” unless they attained victory over every distress, over pride, selfishness, love of the world, and over every false word and false deed.
It is true that in the end-time, when God's work on earth comes to a close, the earnest efforts of consecrated believers under the direction of the Holy Spirit will be accompanied by special signs of divine favor. Under the image of the early rain and the late rain... the Hebrew prophets foretold the bestowal of spiritual grace in an extraordinary measure for God's church.
