Ellen Gould White über: "On the Works in the Investigative Judgment"
Answer
In the Investigative Judgment, which began in 1844, all people who have professed Christ are subjected to a thorough examination. The decision is based on the heavenly record books, which contain both the names and the deeds of people. God judges each work according to His law and weighs the character on the scales of eternal justice to determine the destiny of each soul.
The Examination of Works Before the Divine Judgment
At the appointed time for the judgment – the end of the 2300 days in 1844 – the work of investigation and the removal of sin began. All who have ever taken upon themselves the name of Christ must pass its searching examination. Both the living and the dead shall be judged “according to what is written in the books, according to their works.”
The heavenly record books, in which the names and deeds of people are registered, determine the judgments of the court. The prophet Daniel says: “The judgment has been set, and the books have been opened.” ... “And the dead were judged according to what is written in the books, according to their works.”
God’s law is the standard by which the characters and lives of people are examined in the judgment. The wise man says: “Fear God and keep His commandments; for that is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work to judgment.”
The Judge of the whole earth will render a just decision. He cannot be bribed; He cannot be deceived. He, who created man... He is the one who weighs the character on the scales of eternal justice. Every individual has a soul to save or to lose.
The judgment stands directly before us, when the work of every man and woman must be examined. All will be rewarded according to how their works have been. An impartial judge then looks at the character, stripped of all outward splendor.
We must all be rich in good works in this life if we want to secure the future, immortal life. When the judgment convenes and the books are opened, each person will be rewarded according to their works.
