What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Miriam was banished from the camp for seven days because of leprosy and a lesson about criticism and leadership."

Answer

Miriam was punished with leprosy and banished from the camp for seven days because of jealousy and rebellion against the leadership appointed by God through Moses. This divine rebuke served as a warning to all Israel to curb the growing spirit of discontent and insubordination. Only after her humiliation and Moses' intercession was she healed, but she had to spend the full period of isolation outside the community.

Miriam's Rebellion and Punishment

»Miriam and Aaron, who criticized Moses' marriage and were blinded by the selfish desire for a position equal to Moses, made this claim: "Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has He not also spoken through us?" ... Jehovah heard the complaint and punished Miriam by striking her with leprosy. Her later healing did not lessen the severity of the rebuke in any way.«

Warning Against Jealousy and Discontent

»This revelation of the Lord’s displeasure was intended as a warning to all Israel to test the growing spirit of discontent and insubordination. Had Miriam’s jealousy and discontent not been so clearly rebuked, it would have led to great disaster. Jealousy is one of the most satanic traits that can exist in the human heart... However, Miriam was excluded from the camp for seven days.«

Loyalty to Divine Leadership

»God had chosen Moses and placed His spirit upon him; and Miriam and Aaron, by their murmuring, were guilty of disloyalty, not only to their appointed leader but to God Himself. ... However, Miriam was excluded from the camp for seven days. Only when she was banished from the camp did the symbol of God’s favor rest again on the tabernacle. Out of respect for her high position and in mourning over the blow that had struck her, the entire community remained in Hazeroth and waited for her return.«

The Cause of Jealousy

»When Miriam became jealous of Moses, she was inclined to find faults in the events of his life that God had specially directed. ... After Miriam became jealous, she imagined that Aaron and herself had been neglected and that Moses’ wife was the cause—that she had influenced the spirit of her husband... "And Miriam was excluded from the camp for seven days; and the people did not move on until Miriam was brought back.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
