Ellen Gould White über: "Mediation of Prayer through Jesus Christ"
Answer
Jesus Christ functions as the connecting link between God and humanity and is the only mediator through whom our prayers are heard. He mixes our sincere petitions with the fragrant incense of his own merits and righteousness, so that they appear perfect and pleasing before the Father. By praying in Christ's name, we make use of his intercession in the heavenly sanctuary, where he stands protectively beside us and presents our concerns as his own desire.
Christ as Mediator and Intercessor
Christ is the connecting link between God and humanity. ... When we draw near to God through the virtue of Christ's merits, we are clothed with His priestly garments. He places us close to His side, embraces us with His human arm, while with His divine arm He seizes the throne of the Infinite. He places His merits as sweet incense into an incense vessel in our hands to encourage our petitions. He promises to hear and answer our pleas. Yes, Christ has become the mediator of prayer between man and God.
Refinement of Prayers through Christ's Merits
Christ declares Himself as our intercessor. He wants us to know that He graciously has committed Himself to be our representative. He places His merit into the golden incense vessel to present it with the prayers of His saints, so that the prayers of His beloved children are mixed with the fragrant merit of Christ as they ascend in the cloud of incense to the Father.
Prayer in the Name of Jesus
We are to pray in the name of Christ, our mediator. Our petitions are of value only when presented in His name. He has bridged the gap that sin tore. Through His atoning sacrifice He has bound those who believe in Him to Himself and to His Father. His name is the only one under heaven by which we can be saved.
Cleansing of Imperfect Petitions
Every sincere prayer is heard in heaven. It may not be expressed fluently; but if the heart is therein, it will ascend to the sanctuary where Jesus serves, and He will present it to the Father without a single awkward, stammering word, beautiful and fragrant with the incense of His own perfection.
The Significance of Heavenly Intercession
Christ's intercession for humanity in the upper sanctuary is as essential to the plan of salvation as His death on the cross. ... Jesus has opened the way to the Father's throne, and through His mediation the sincere desire of all who come to Him in faith can be presented before God.
Prayer to the Throne of Grace
Believers cannot see their Mediator with the natural eye, but with the eye of faith they see Christ before the throne of grace and direct their prayers to Him, confidently claiming the blessings of His mediation.
