What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Matthew 11:12-14: Does this passage mean that the prophecy only extends up to John?"

Answer

John the Baptist functioned as a link between the Jewish and Christian ages and fulfilled the promise of the coming Elijah for the first coming of Christ. However, the Scriptures emphasize that this was by no means the end of prophecy or spiritual gifts; rather, the gift of prophecy continued in the Christian age and typologically even points to the proclamation before the Second Coming.

John as a link between the ages

»The prophet John was the link between the two dispensations of salvation. As God's representative, he emerged to show the relationship of the law and the prophets to the Christian age. He was the lesser light, to which a greater one should follow.«

John in the spirit and power of Elijah

»Jesus later said with reference to John: “And if you are willing to accept it: He is Elijah who is to come.” John came in the spirit and power of Elijah to do a work such as Elijah had done. If the Jews had accepted him, it would have been accomplished for them. But they did not accept his message.«

Continuation of spiritual gifts in the Christian age

»The Christian age began with the outpouring of the Spirit, and a great variety of spiritual gifts was manifested among the believers. These were so abundant that Paul could tell the church in Corinth: “In each one the Spirit is revealed for the benefit of all” – in each one in the church, not in each one in the world, as many have applied them.«

The prophetic message in the spirit of Elijah for the end times

»John came in the spirit and power of Elijah to proclaim the first coming of Jesus. I was shown the time of the last days, and I saw that John was to represent those who would go forth in the spirit and power of Elijah to announce the day of wrath and the second coming of Jesus.«

No abolition of the spiritual gifts

»I conclude from this that the Lord has not committed himself to be silent, but continues to have the freedom to speak. [...] Thus the attempt to prove from Scripture the abolition of the spiritual gifts proves to be a complete failure.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
