What does Ellen White write about...
Ellen Gould White über: "Job 19: what important thing can I learn from Job's second answer to Bildad?"
Answer
From Job's reaction to his friends and the mention of his words in Job 19 we can learn that true faith clings to a Redeemer even in deepest distress. Job was misunderstood by his friends and sharply criticized, which led him to reject their “wretched comforter” attitude. Nevertheless, he emerged from this trial with steadfast integrity and the unwavering hope of Christ's return like gold.
Unshakable Trust in the Redeemer
»The patriarch Job cried out in the night of his affliction with unshakable confidence: "I know that my Redeemer lives, and that He will stand on the earth on the last day; ... in my flesh I will see God, whom I shall see myself, and my eyes will behold Him and no other.«
The Friends' Misunderstanding and Job's Integrity
»Job was not understood by his friends. He throws their accusations back at them. He shows them that, when they defend God by professing their faith in Him and their awareness of sin, he possesses a deeper and more thorough knowledge of it than they ever had. "Wretched comforters you all are" is the reply he gives to their criticisms and censures. "Even I," says Job, "could speak as you do: if your soul were in place of my soul, I could heap words against you and shake my head over you." But he explains that he would not do this. "I," he says, "would strengthen you with my mouth, and the movement of my lips should alleviate your pain.«
Testing in the Fire of Affliction
»If He has tested me," said Job, "I will emerge like gold." ... According to his faith this happened to him. Through his patient endurance he vindicated his own character and thereby the character of Him whose representative he was. And "the Lord restored Job's losses. ... Yes, the Lord gave Job double as much as he had before.«
