Adventistische Schriften über: "Jesus’ stepbrothers"
Answer
The brothers of Jesus – who were called the sons of Joseph – were older than Him and therefore thought that He must bow to their commands. They sided with the rabbis, clung to human traditions, and met His perfect obedience and His meekness with jealousy, contempt, and misunderstanding. Because they could not grasp His divine mission, they often regarded His work as a disgrace to the family and even tried to restrict Him in His work.
The Sons of Joseph and Their Clinging to Traditions
»His brothers, who were called the sons of Joseph, took the side of the rabbis. They insisted that the traditions must be observed as if they were the demands of God. They valued human commandments even higher than the word of God, and they were greatly irritated by Jesus' clear discernment between the false and the true. They condemned His strict obedience to the law of God as obstinacy.«
Jealousy and Misunderstanding of the Older Brothers
»All this displeased His brothers. Since they were older than Jesus, they thought He should be under their patronage. They accused Him of considering Himself superior, and rebuked Him for placing Himself above their teachers and the priests and leaders of the people. Often they threatened Him and tried to intimidate Him; but He went His own way and made the Holy Scripture His guide. Jesus loved His brothers and treated them with tireless kindness; but they were jealous of Him and showed the most determined disbelief and contempt.«
The Attempt to Halt Jesus' Work
»His brothers heard about it and also about the Pharisees' accusation that He cast out demons by the power of Satan. They felt the shame that their kinship with Jesus brought upon them very painfully. They decided that He must be persuaded or forced to cease His work, and they induced Mary to join them... But with their short‑sighted measure, His brothers could not comprehend the mission He had come to fulfill, and therefore could not empathize with Him in His trials.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
