What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Jeremiah 36:5: Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, “I am confined and cannot go into the house of the LORD.” Explain the meaning of this verse."

Answer

Jeremiah could not go to the house of the LORD himself, so he instructed his scribe Baruch to read God’s message there. The verse shows that Jeremiah’s inability to go was not to stop the message from being proclaimed. The message contained warnings, but also a call to repentance: the people were to turn from their evil ways and ask God for help. The verse itself does not state why Jeremiah could not go; Ellen White describes him as a prisoner in her commentary.

Baruch is to read in Jeremiah’s place

»“And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am confined; I cannot go into the house of the LORD. Therefore you go and read from the scroll which you have written at my dictation the words of the LORD in the hearing of the people in the house of the LORD on the fasting day.”«

The warning is intended to lead to repentance

»This message was a rebuke for the many sins of Israel and a warning of the consequences that would follow if they continued in their evil course. It was an earnest call to give up their sins. After it had been written down, Jeremiah, who was a prisoner, sent his scribe to read the scroll to all the people who had gathered “in the house of the LORD on the fasting day.” The prophet said, “Perhaps they will bring their supplication before the LORD, and everyone will turn from his evil way.”«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
