Ellen Gould White
What does Ellen White write about...
Ellen Gould White über: "Is work on Sunday permitted from a biblical perspective?"
Answer
From a biblical perspective, Sunday is an ordinary workday, because God only sanctified the seventh day (the Sabbath) and set it aside for rest. While work on Sunday is in itself permitted, it is advised not to perform it in a demonstrative or provocative manner, in order to avoid unnecessary conflict with civil laws or fellow humans. Instead, Sunday can be usefully employed for missionary activities and service to God.
Sunday as an ordinary workday
»Almost all professing followers of Christ do not keep the day that God sanctified and required them to keep holy in order to rest on it, because He Himself rested on it. They work during God's holy time and honor the first day of the week by resting on it, which is an ordinary workday, a day on which God did not rest and to which He did not confer any holy honor.«
Avoiding provocation through Sunday work
»We should not see it as our duty to irritate our neighbors who idolize Sunday by deliberately making efforts to perform work on that day in front of their eyes, merely to display independence. ... There should be no noisy demonstration.«
Meaningful use of Sunday for God
»Sunday can be used to advance various lines of work that will greatly benefit the Lord. On this day, meetings can be held outdoors and in homes. House-to-house work can be done. Those who write can devote this day to composing their articles. Whenever possible, let worship services be held on Sunday.«
No holiness through human laws
»But that does not make a day holy that God has given us as an ordinary workday. Although this error may be venerable, although the world bows in reverence before it, it remains nevertheless an error and a deception.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
