Adventistische Schriften über: "Is water baptism necessary for salvation?"

Answer

Water baptism is described as a meaningful sign of entry into God's spiritual kingdom and as an act of obedience to Christ, but it is not in itself decisive for salvation. Faith, repentance, and a living connection to Christ are the prerequisites, without which baptism remains merely a worthless form. People are judged according to the light they have received, so sincere individuals who have not had the opportunity for biblical baptism can also be saved.

Baptism as a sign, but not as the sole means of salvation

»We do not say that no one will be saved except those who have been immersed. We believe that thousands who have never been baptized will be in the kingdom of God. All will be judged according to the light they had. ... Those who have the clear light on these topics will also be judged by that light and by the way they walk in that light.«

Conversion and a living connection instead of mere form

»Separated from Christ, baptism, like any other service, is a worthless form. ... Salvation does not mean being baptized, having our names in church records, or preaching the truth. Rather, it is a living connection with Jesus Christ, being renewed in the heart, and doing the works of Christ in faith and love, in patience, gentleness, and hope.«

Rejection of the absolute necessity of the rite for salvation

»We cannot support the view that without baptism no one possibly can be saved. ... In this area, as with other topics, the Scripture is misused by drawing conclusions from a single text without taking the trouble to examine other texts and thereby ensure a harmony of evidence.«

Baptism as a confession and spiritual condition

»Christ made baptism the sign of entry into His spiritual kingdom. He made it a positive condition that all must fulfill who wish to be recognized as standing under the authority of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Before a person can find a home in the church, before he crosses the threshold of God's spiritual kingdom, he should receive the imprint of the divine name: “The Lord, our righteousness”.«

Faith and repentance as prerequisites

»1. Jesus said, "Whoever believes and is baptized shall be saved." Faith is presented here as preceding baptism and as a prerequisite. 2. Peter said, "Repent and be baptized." Here repentance also precedes and is a prerequisite for baptism.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
