According to the Scriptures, Adam was formed directly by God from the dust of the earth, with God breathing the breath of life into him. The earth is described as the material from which he was taken and to which he should return after the fall, but not as his \"mother\". Eve, on the other hand, is explicitly called the \"mother of all living\".
The Creation of Adam from the Earth
The Lord, God, formed man from the dust of the earth and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils; and man became a living soul.“
To Adam the Lord said: ‘... cursed be the ground because of you; with sorrow you shall eat of it all your life... in the sweat of your face you shall eat your bread, until you return to the earth; for from it you were taken: for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.’“
Finally God created Eve, the mother of all living. The work of the Creator was now completed. ‘Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their host.’“
After the earth had been created and the animals upon it, the Father and the Son carried out their intention... to create man in their image. ... When Adam emerged from the hand of his Creator, he was of noble stature and beautiful symmetry.“
