Ellen Gould White über: "Influence of diet on the liver"
Answer
A poor diet places a great burden on the liver, especially when excessive amounts of food or inferior foods are consumed. Unhealthy habits such as the consumption of white flour, spices, as well as oil and vinegar cause the blood to become contaminated and the digestive organs to become overtaxed. This results in the liver becoming sluggish or pathologically altered, because it cannot process the excess and indigestible substances.
The burden on the liver from diet
“I saw your state of health and the sufferings you have endured for so long. It was shown to me that you have not lived healthily. ... You have taken things into your stomach that cannot possibly be converted into good blood. This has heavily burdened the liver because the digestive organs are disturbed. Both of you have diseased livers.”
“Everything that is taken into the stomach and exceeds what the system can use to convert into good blood clogs the machinery ... and its presence burdens the liver and creates a pathological condition of the system.”
“The salads are prepared with oil and vinegar, fermentation occurs in the stomach, and the food does not digest but rots or decays; as a result, the blood is not nourished but fills with impurities, and liver and kidney complaints arise.”
“Both of you have inactive livers. The use of fine flour [white flour] aggravates the difficulties you suffer from.”
“Excessive eating, even of the simplest food, numbs the delicate nerves of the brain and weakens its vitality. ... The energies of the soul are more effectively subdued by gluttonous eating than by gluttonous work.”
