Neighborly love fulfills the law because it is the guiding principle underlying every command, as love does no harm to the neighbor. True love for God and for fellow humans encompasses the entire moral responsibility of a person and forms the foundation on which all commandments and prophets rest. One who acts out of divine love automatically respects the life, property, and interests of others, thereby fulfilling the justice of the law through the Spirit of Christ.
Love as the Fulfillment of the Law
»The love does no harm to the neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. ... One can never receive the love of Jesus and have it spread in the heart until jealous feelings, hatred, envy, and evil suspicions are laid aside. ... The principle of love must dwell in our hearts.«

Love of God consists in keeping those commandments that contain our duty toward Him; love of our neighbor consists in obeying those commandments that contain our duty toward him.
