Ellen Gould White
What does Ellen White write about...
Ellen Gould White über: "In the Gospels it is reported that the rooster crowed only after Peter denied Jesus three times. In one Gospel it even says twice... Could you please check Ellen White’s writings, because I think that the rooster crowed the second time after Peter denied Jesus three times?"
Answer
Ellen White describes in “The Life of Jesus” very clearly that the rooster crowed the second time only after Peter’s third denial. Peter heard this second crowing and then remembered Jesus’ words that predicted that he would deny him three times before the rooster crows twice. Ellen White’s depiction therefore agrees with the questioner’s view – the second crowing occurred after the third denial.
The rooster crows after the third denial
»Now Peter denied his Master with curses and oaths. Then the rooster crowed a second time. Peter heard it and remembered Jesus’ words: “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”«
Jesus’ warning in the upper room
»Jesus had warned him that he would deny his Savior that very night. Now Christ repeats the warning: “Truly, I say to you, that on this day, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”«
Jesus’ look at the rooster’s cry
»While the disgraceful oaths were still on Peter’s lips and the shrill crowing of the rooster still rang in his ears, the Savior turned away from the dark‑looking judges and looked fully at his poor disciple.«
- Peter denial three times
- rooster crows twice
- Peter repentance and conversion

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
