Do not respond to a harsh or self-righteous rebuke in the same spirit. Listen patiently, consider the matter, and calmly explain the circumstances without resentment or retaliation. The correction itself should be given in a spirit of gentleness and humility. At the same time, the passages show that one can patiently hear accusations and then explain one’s motives.

Avoid self-righteousness and accusations
»This work of restoration must not be done in a proud, overbearing, or domineering manner. […] Restore them “in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”«
