Adventistische Schriften über: "How should Mark 2:27-28 be understood?"

Answer

Mark 2:27‑28 makes clear that the Sabbath was created as a blessing for all humanity and not as a burdensome law. Jesus points out that the spiritual significance of the Sabbath—rest, peace, and mercy—is more important than petty human regulations. As Creator, Christ stands above the Sabbath and demonstrates by His actions that life’s necessities and acts of mercy are in harmony with God’s holy day of rest.

The Sabbath as a Blessing for Human Well‑Being

»\"The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath,\" said Jesus. The institutions that God has established serve the welfare of humanity. ... The law of the Ten Commandments, of which the Sabbath is a part, God gave to His people as a blessing. ... \"Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord over the Sabbath.\" These words are full of instruction and comfort. Because the Sabbath was made for man, it is the Lord's day. It belongs to Christ. For \"all things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.\" Since He made all things, He also made the Sabbath. Through Him it was set apart as a monument of the work of Creation. It points to Him both as Creator and as Sanctifier.«

Mercy and Meeting Needs on the Sabbath

»Jesus wanted to teach His disciples and His opponents that service to God comes first; and when fatigue and hunger accompanied the work, it was right to meet humanity’s needs, even on the Sabbath. This holy institution was not given to disrupt the needs of our existence and to bring pain and discomfort instead of blessings. \"The Sabbath was made for man\" to give him rest and peace and to remind him of his Creator’s work, not to be a burdensome load.«

Christ as Creator and Lord of the Sabbath

»The foundation of the Sabbath was laid by God's resting on the seventh day... The Sabbath was given to the first Adam in Eden when he was the head of the human family... The second Adam is the Lord of the Sabbath. And rightly so; for in His divine nature as the Son of God He was with the Father when the Sabbath was made. ... Indeed, God the Father made the worlds through Him. Our divine Redeemer was therefore directly involved in the institution of the Sabbath in Eden. And since the first Adam forfeited his place as head of the human family, the second Adam was ordained by God to assume that position. Thus He is both the observer and the Lord of the Sabbath.«

Response to Human Traditions

»He explained that in their blindness they had misunderstood the purpose of the Sabbath. He said, \"If you only knew what it means: 'I delight in mercy and not in sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.\" Their many heartless rituals could not replace the lack of that genuine integrity and tender love that will always characterize the true worshiper of God.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
