What does Ellen White write about...

Ellen Gould White über: "How should a Christian deal with temptation?"

Answer

A Christian should confront temptations by fully relying on the Word of God and following the example of Christ, who defeated the enemy with an “It is written.” It is important to put on the armor of God, to keep vigilant constantly, and to plead in prayer for divine help so as not to fall into temptation of one's own will. Victory is not achieved by one's own strength, but through the Christ who dwells within us and an unwavering faith that claims divine power.

Resistance through the Word of God

»The example of Christ lies before us. He overcame Satan and showed us how we too can overcome. Christ resisted Satan with Scripture. He could have drawn upon His own divine power and used His own words; but He said, “It is written: Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” ... If the Holy Scripture were studied and obeyed, the Christian would be strengthened to face the crafty enemy; but the Word of God is neglected, and disaster and defeat follow.«

Watch and Pray to Avoid Temptation

»Watch and pray so that you do not fall into temptation. Temptations may be everywhere around you, but you are safe as long as you do not enter them. Many of us are overwhelmed by Satan because we run straight into the temptation. ... It is your task to keep yourself away from anything that tends to lead you away from duty and distract your spirit from God. ... If you are forced to be in the company of those who are evil, you are not forced to partake in their evil or to engage with it.«

Faith as the Power of Victory

»It is faith that connects us with heaven and gives us strength to deal with the powers of darkness. In Christ, God has provided means to overcome every evil trait and to resist every temptation, no matter how strong it may be. ... This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. All is possible for the one who believes; and everything we desire in prayer, when we believe we will receive it, will be granted to us.«

The Armor of God and the Inner Conflict

»When truth takes possession of the heart, the Christian will enter into a conflict, and in this conflict he will need the whole armor of God, for he has the good fight of faith to wage. There are opposing elements within one's own household, even within one's own heart, and nothing but the free spirit of God can secure his victory.«

Christ as Helper in Need

»If we are self-assured or self-righteous, we will fall prey to the power of temptation; but if we look to Jesus and trust Him, we call upon a power that has defeated the enemy on the battlefield, and He will provide a way out of every temptation. When Satan comes like a flood, we must meet his temptations with the sword of the Spirit, and Jesus will be our helper and raise a banner against him for us.«

Constant Vigilance at the Gates of the Soul

»Every Christian must constantly be on guard and watch every access point to the soul through which Satan could gain entry. He must pray for divine help and at the same time resolutely resist any inclination toward sin. Through courage, through faith, and through persistent effort he can triumph. Yet he should remember that Christ must remain in him and he in Christ to achieve victory.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
