What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "How is the statement “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man” in 1 Corinthians 10:13 to be understood?"

Answer

The statement means that every test that comes upon us is carefully weighed and measured by the Lord Jesus Christ and does not exceed human ability when the divine grace is applied. God often allows difficulties and disappointments to break our self‑sufficiency and to teach us to seek help from the heavenly Father like a child. He is faithful and will provide a way out in every predicament so that we may stand firm and be strengthened in faith through the experience.

Tests Are Weighed and Overcome

»Every test is weighed and measured by the Lord Jesus Christ, and it does not exceed a person’s ability to endure it through the grace given to them. “God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but will make the temptation end so that you can endure it.” Will this dear brother … grasp the promise? “The Lord knows how to deliver the godly from temptation.” This means that the Lord, even when everything may appear overwhelmingly dark, will bring forth those who are tested with a stronger faith and a richer experience.«

God as Helper in Trouble

»God says to His people: Do not imitate the behavior of the children of Israel by showing unbelief when you encounter difficulties, for “no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond your ability.” … In His mercy He does not always place us in the easiest spots. If He did, we would, in our self‑sufficiency, forget that the Lord is our helper in times of trouble. Yet He longs to reveal Himself to us in our plight and to disclose the abundant supplies that are available to us, regardless of our circumstances.«

Christ as Helper in Temptation

»We must not think that by walking the path of obedience we will avoid trials; for the enemy will do everything within his power to prevent us from winning the heavens. But the Redeemer has promised to help us. Do you have trials? Jesus had them too. Are you tempted? He was as well—in everything just as we are. … “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond your ability; rather He will also provide a way out with the temptation so that you can endure it.”«

Warning against Overconfidence

»The apostle urged the Corinthians: “If anyone thinks he stands, let him see that he does not fall.” Should they become boastful and over‑confident and neglect to watch and pray, they would fall into serious sin and incur God’s wrath. Yet Paul did not want them to succumb to discouragement or despondency. He gave them the assurance: “God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but will make the temptation end so that you can endure it.”«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
