What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "How is the statement in Exodus 8:19 about the sign of redemption after the third plague to be understood?"
Answer
The statement about the “finger of God” marks the moment when the Egyptian magicians had to admit their powerlessness, because they could not replicate the miracle of the third plague (lice). While the first plagues came over all of Egypt, God then established a clear separation between His people and the Egyptians, to reveal His dominion and the protection of His believers. This separation of Israel serves as a model for the end times, in which God's sealed people are preserved amid global plagues.
The Finger of God and Divine Superiority
»The production of lice occurred through the finger of God; his other miracles in Egypt were wrought by his hand; the destruction of Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea by his arm. God's great power is represented by his finger, his greater by his hand, his greatest by his arm. ... The magicians tried to bring forth lice, and could not; they were forced by God's power even to acknowledge before Pharaoh and say, "This is the finger of God."«
The Separation between God's People and Egypt
»Of these nine plagues, the first three were connected with the river and the soil, which were the pride of Egypt and the object of its worship. They spread over the whole land, and at the third the magicians said: "This is the finger of God." Through them the land was humbled in its pride and its religion. The other six came exclusively upon the Egyptians, as the Lord had said: "I will set a separation between my people and your people," "so that you may recognize that I am the Lord in the midst of the land."«
Foreshadowing of End‑time Redemption
»Just as the Lord, after the first three plagues that fell upon the land of the Pharaohs, brought about a separation between Israel and the Egyptians, so He says in the time of tribulation: "Come, my people, go into your chambers and shut the door behind you." ... The deliverance of Israel from the land of Egypt and their guidance through the wilderness is a pattern for God's care for His sealed ones during the year in which the plagues fall.«
