After the Fall, God came to Adam and Eve and called Adam to account. He asked where Adam was and whether he had eaten from the forbidden tree; then he asked Eve what she had done.

When they heard God’s majestic approach, they tried to hide from Him. “And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? […] And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” The Lord asked this question not because He needed information, but to bring the guilty pair to a realization of their sin.
