Ellen Gould White über: "Homeopathy and Healing"
Answer
The writings of Ellen G. White advise caution regarding homeopathy, because dependence on medicines—whether in large or small doses—does not align with the principles of health reform. Instead, it is emphasized that healing should primarily be sought through natural means such as pure air, water, proper nutrition, and trust in God.
True healing occurs through cooperation with the laws of nature and the removal of the causes of disease, rather than suppressing symptoms with drugs.
Homeopathy and Health Reform
»In their practice, physicians should increasingly strive to reduce the use of medicines rather than increase it. When Dr. A came to the Health Retreat, she set aside her knowledge and practice of hygiene and administered small homeopathic doses for almost every ailment. This was done against the light that God had given. Thus our people, who had been taught to avoid medicines in almost every form, received a different education. I was compelled to tell her that this practice of dependence on medicine, whether in large or small doses, was not in accordance with the principles of health reform.«
God's Remedies
»There are many ways to practice the art of healing; but there is only one way that Heaven approves. God's remedies are the simple means of nature that do not burden or weaken the organism with their strong properties. Pure air and water, cleanliness, proper nutrition, purity of life, and a steadfast trust in God are remedies whose lack causes thousands to die.«
Simple Natural Remedies Instead of Drugs
»In the manner in which the Savior healed, lessons were laid for His disciples. ... Healing could only be effected by the power of the Great Healer, yet Christ made use of the simple means of nature. While He gave no approval to medicinal treatment, He sanctioned the use of simple and natural remedies.«
Addressing the Cause of Disease
»The first thing to do is to determine the true character of the disease and then intelligently proceed to eliminate the cause. If the harmonious functioning of the organism has been thrown out of balance by overwork, excessive eating, or other irregularities, do not try to remedy the difficulties by adding a load of toxic medicines.«
Cooperating with God
»It is not a denial of faith to use such remedies that God has provided to alleviate pain and to help nature in its work of restoration. It is not a denial of faith to cooperate with God and place oneself in the condition most conducive to recovery.«
