Adventistische Schriften über: "Holy places in biblical prophecy"

Answer

In biblical prophecy the understanding of holy places shifts from the earthly to the heavenly sanctuary. While God dwelt among His people in an earthly place in the Old Testament, the prophecies in Daniel and Revelation reveal a “true sanctuary” in heaven, where Christ serves as High Priest. The prophecy shows that the cleansing of this heavenly sanctuary began in 1844 and initiates the final phase of the plan of redemption before Christ’s second coming. ### The true sanctuary in heaven

»This sanctuary in heaven is called by David, Habakkuk, and John “the temple of God in heaven”; by Zechariah and Jeremiah God’s “holy dwelling”; by Paul “a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands”, “the true one”, “things in heaven”, and the “holy places”. ... John was taken up in the face into heaven and reports to us the things he saw there: “Seven burning lamps before the throne”, the counterpart to the golden lampstand of the earthly sanctuary... “And the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple.”«

### The opening of the Most Holy Place in prophecy

»“And the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple.” Revelation 11:19. We have seen that the temple in heaven is the sanctuary, the true tabernacle that the Lord erected and not a man. The opening of this temple, as presented in this passage, is the one that reveals God’s ark of covenant. The ark had its place exclusively in the second compartment of the sanctuary. Thus this is the opening of the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary. And when does this occur? At the sounding of the seventh trumpet.«

### The end of the earthly holy places

»“Let them make for me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” That sanctuary was “a holy place”. There the Lord placed His name and manifested His glory during the typological dispensation of the Law of Moses. But when Christ came and was crucified, that dispensation closed, and all services of the earthly sanctuary were nailed to the cross, and the sanctuary was no longer “a holy place”. Since that time the sanctuary is in heaven.«

### The prophetic significance of the investigative judgment

»In Daniel’s vision the prophet saw the Father’s throne move to the place of judgment. It was the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary; for in the earthly, typological sanctuary the Most Holy Place, the second compartment of the temple, was the location of the judgment work in the annual service cycle for Israel. The final phase of the service for sin on the last day of the annual ritual was the cleansing of the sanctuary, the day of atonement. It was the day of judgment in the camp.«
