Ellen Gould White über: "Healing of the ten lepers. Only one returned."
Answer
When Jesus healed ten lepers, he instructed them to present themselves to the priests, and they were healed on the way there. Although all ten were healed, only one – a Samaritan – returned to praise God with a loud voice and thank Jesus. The other nine, who were Jews, continued on their way without giving honor to the giver of health or showing gratitude.
The Lesson of the Grateful Return
And it happened that when he came to a village, ten leprous men met him; they stood at a distance and raised their voices and said, 'Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!' And when he saw them, he said to them, 'Go, show yourselves to the priests!' And it happened that while they went, they were cleansed. But one among them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back and praised God with a loud voice and fell on his face at his feet and thanked him; and that one was a Samaritan. But Jesus answered and said, 'Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Has no one else been found who turned back to give honor to God, except this foreigner?' And he said to him, "Rise, go; your faith has helped you.
Lack of Gratitude of the Healed
Here lies a lesson for all of us. ... They have faith to set out on the way, and trust in the power of Christ to heal them. As they walk their path, they recognize that the terrible disease has fled from them. But only one feels gratitude, only one feels his deep commitment to Christ for this great work that was performed on him. This one returns praising God ... and this man was a foreigner; the other nine were Jews.
The Danger of Ingratitude
When the ten lepers came to Jesus for healing, he told them to go and show themselves to the priest. On the way they were cleansed, but only one of them returned to give him honor. The others went their ways and forgot him who had made them healthy. How many still do the same today! ... Through their ingratitude they close their hearts to the grace of God.
Healing for the Sake of One Individual
For the sake of this one man, who would rightly make use of the blessing of health, Jesus healed all ten. The nine went on, without honoring the work accomplished, and gave Jesus no grateful thanks for the work.
- Healing of the lepers gratitude
- Ten lepers Samaritan
- Give God honor healing
