Adventistische Schriften über: "Head covering in worship"
Answer
The worship service requires a reverent attitude that is also reflected in clothing; for example, it is inappropriate for men to enter the house of God wearing a hat. Women should cover their heads when praying or prophesying, and the overall attire must be simple and orderly, without distracting fashion extravagance or conspicuous headgear such as feathers. The purpose of outward appearance in the sanctuary is to honor God's holiness and not draw attention to oneself or worldly fashion trends.
Reverence and Order in the House of God
In the minds of many there are no holier thoughts associated with the house of God than with the most ordinary place. Some enter the place of worship with hats on, in soiled, dirty clothing. Such people do not realize that they are to encounter God and holy angels. In this matter there should be a radical change in all our congregations.
Head covering of the woman in worship
The reader is asked to look up and carefully read the first fifteen verses. He will find there that Christ is the head of every man and the man is the head of the woman; that the woman, when she prays or prophesies, should have her head covered. From these texts we infer that a woman may pray or prophesy in the congregation.
Avoidance of fashionable display
The display of bows and ribbons, frills and feathers, as well as gold and silver jewelry is a form of idolatry and completely inappropriate for the holy worship, where each worshiper's eye should be fixed solely on His glory. All matters of clothing should be strictly guarded by closely following the biblical rule. Fashion has been the goddess that rules the outside world, and it often sneaks into the congregation.
Symbolism of the priestly head covering
The high priest's miter consisted of a white linen turban to which a gold plate bearing the inscription “Holiness to the Lord” was attached with a blue cord. Everything related to the priests' clothing and appearance was intended to give the observer a sense of God's holiness, the sanctity of His worship, and the purity required of those who enter His presence.
- Reverence in worship
- Modesty in clothing
