The gospel was, according to the writings of Ellen G. White, already preached during the time of the apostles to the world known at that time, which led to the destruction of Jerusalem. Regarding the end of the world, the complete proclamation to all nations, tribes, and languages is still pending or is in its final phase. Had the church already fulfilled its task as intended, the work would already be completed and Christ would have returned.
The proclamation of the gospel as a sign of the end
»Christ said: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all peoples, and then the end will come.” Before the fall of Jerusalem, Paul declared that the gospel had been preached to “every creature under heaven.” Similarly, now the eternal gospel is to be preached to “every nation, every tribe, every language, and every people.” Christ does not say that the whole world will be converted, but that “this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all peoples, and then the end will come.”«
Delay caused by the church
»Had Christ’s church performed its assigned work as the Lord had ordained, the whole world would already have been warned before this time, and the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great glory. It is unbelief, worldliness, lack of consecration, and the strife among the confessing people of the Lord that have kept us for many years in this world of sin and suffering.«
Still pending warning
»God has called this people to give the world the message of Christ’s imminent coming. We are to give people the final call to the gospel feast, the last invitation to the Lamb’s wedding banquet. Thousands of places that have not yet heard the call must still hear it. Many who have not yet proclaimed the message will still proclaim it.«
Proclamation in the time of the apostles
»Despite the fierce resistance that the disciples encountered, within a short time the gospel of the kingdom resonated throughout all inhabited parts of the earth. The commission given to the disciples is also given to us. Today, as then, a crucified and risen Savior is to be raised before those who are without God and without hope in the world.«
