Adventistische Schriften über: "God, the Creator, died for us. What could our works add to that? Why is the thought blasphemous that our works could add something to what Christ has already done for us?"

Answer

Since Christ, as Creator and part of the deity, has offered an infinite sacrifice, his redemption is already complete; human works cannot add anything to this infinite value. The attempt to earn God's favor through one's own merits obscures the view of Christ's boundless love and makes His words that He alone is “the way” seem unbelievable. Only God Himself can redeem, while human efforts could never be sufficient to meet the holy requirements of the law or bring fallen humanity back to God.

The Inadequacy of Human Merits

Trust in human merits blocks the view of Christ's infinite love. Jesus died as a sacrifice for humanity because the fallen race can do nothing to recommend itself before God. The merits of a crucified and risen Savior are the foundation of the Christian faith.

Christ as the Only and Perfect Way

Many lose the right path because they think they must ascend to heaven, that they must do something to earn God's favor. ... If we could take even a single step on the ladder through any of our own effort, then Christ's words that He alone is the way would not be true.

A Divine vs. a Human Sacrifice

Indeed, the fact that Christ is part of the deity... is the only power that lies in reconciliation. This alone makes redemption possible at all. ... If Christ were not divine, we would have only a human sacrifice. ... Angels can serve; only God can redeem.

The Deception about the “Final Polish”

They seem to think that Jesus will only come at the very end of their struggle to help them by giving the final polish to their life's work. It seems difficult for them to understand that Christ is a complete Savior.

The Law and Human Powerlessness

No matter how diligent or eager a person works, nothing they can do will meet the full measure of the law's requirements. ... He cannot obtain righteousness through the law. “No flesh will be justified before Him by the works of the law.”
