What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Giving up coffee: Is tea a better transition for tapering off because caffeine acts more evenly?"

Answer

According to the Adventist health teachings of Ellen G. White, neither coffee nor tea is recommended as a suitable transition, as both are considered artificial nervous stimulants that harm health. Tea is explicitly described as "intoxicating" and "poisonous to the system," while coffee is considered even more harmful. Adventist health doctrine therefore rejects both stimulants and instead recommends rest, adequate recovery, and natural nutrition.

Effects of Tea and Coffee on the Body

»Tea and coffee numb and damage the system. Their effect is similar to that of wine and mustard, spirits and tobacco. Coffee is a harmful habit. It briefly excites the mind to unusual activity, yet the aftereffect is exhaustion, collapse, paralysis of mental, moral, and physical powers. The mind is weakened, and unless those who have become masters of habits through determination have had their brain activity permanently reduced.«

Why Tea and Coffee Are Not Recommended

»Tea is intoxicating; although to a lesser degree, its effect is such as that of fermented drinks. Coffee has a greater tendency to damage the mind and numb the powers. It is not as powerful as tobacco, but similar in its effects. The arguments brought against tobacco can also be raised against the use of tea and coffee.«

The Dangerous Nature of Tea and Coffee

»Tea draws on the strength of the nerves and leaves them largely weakened. When its influence passes and the activity enhanced by its use diminishes, then what is the result? Weakness and weakness, corresponding to the artificial vivacity that tea gave. Tea is poisonous to the system. Christians should avoid it. The influence of coffee is in some respects the same as tea, but its effect on the system is even worse.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
