What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Give me a quote about the curse that arises from withholding tithes, about God's cursing in connection with tithes and offerings, and the consequences when one does not return the tithes."

Answer

Withholding tithes and offerings is called robbing God and inevitably brings His curse as well as spiritual and material losses. One who withholds God's property often tends to complain against God and question His ways, instead of recognizing one's own unfaithfulness as the cause of misfortune and lack. By refusing the tithes, one not only harms God's work but brings darkness and loss upon one's own soul.

The threatened curse for robbing God of tithes and offerings

»I was shown that many in our congregations rob God of tithes and offerings. God will exact upon them exactly what He has announced. He will give rich blessings to the obedient, a curse to the transgressors. Every man who brings the message of truth to the congregations must fulfill his duty by warning, instructing, and rebuking. Any neglect of duty that constitutes robbery of God means a curse for the delinquent... A curse is pronounced over all who withhold their tithes from God. He says: “May a man rob God as you have robbed me? Yet you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In the tithes and in the offerings! With the curse you have been cursed, for you have robbed me, the whole people! Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.”«

Grumbling against God and the consequences of embezzlement

»‘Your words have been bold against Me,’ says the Lord. Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against You among ourselves?’ You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God; and what good is it that we have kept His commands and walked in mourning before the Lord of hosts?’ ... Those who withhold what belongs to God make these complaints. The Lord calls them to test Him by bringing their tithes into His storehouse, to see if He will not pour out a blessing upon them. Yet they harbor rebellion in their hearts and grumble against God; at the same time they rob Him and embezzle His property. ... God was not honored by the use of the goods entrusted to them. Therefore He let the curse fall upon them and allowed the destroyer to ruin their fruit and bring misfortune upon them.«

Loss of the heavenly treasure through withholding the tithe

»I was shown that many rob the Lord of the tithe, and as a result His work is hindered. ... God will have long patience. He will test and try all; but the curse will surely follow the selfish transgressor. ... When we rob God of the tithe, we also rob ourselves; for we lose the heavenly treasure. We bring upon ourselves the blessing of God, which is promised to those who deal honestly with Him. “One gives abundantly and always has more; another hoards more than is right and yet only becomes impoverished.”«

Spiritual poverty and darkness through unfaithfulness

»I saw that many who claim to keep God's commandments use the means that the Lord has entrusted to them and that should flow into His treasury for their own benefit. They rob God of tithes and offerings. They hypocritically conceal this from Him to their own detriment. They bring scarcity and poverty upon themselves and darkness upon the congregation because of their greed, their pretense, and their robbing God of tithes and offerings. ... The clear, upright testimony must be alive in the congregation, otherwise God's curse will rest upon His people, as surely as it rested on ancient Israel because of their sins.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
