What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Gathering berries, some found nothing, my basket full, people searching"
Answer
In the narrative, Ellen White describes how, while gathering berries with others, she encouraged them to search in the high bushes after filling her own basket. While some said they had searched everywhere and found nothing, she emphasized that the field belongs to God and all have the privilege of gathering His berries. She rebuked her companions for focusing more on food and rest than on the work, urging them to search diligently rather than linger in idleness. The episode illustrates that diligent, purposeful seeking leads to success, while laziness and indifference result in emptiness.
Description of the Berry-Picking Incident from Ellen White’s Narrative
Just as two or three of the company gathered around me, they said: ‘We have hunted everywhere and can find no fruit.’ They looked in astonishment at the quantity I had. I said: ‘There is more in these bushes.’ As they began to pick, they soon stopped and said: ‘It is not right to pick here; you found this place, and the fruit belongs to you.’ But I answered: ‘That makes no difference. Pick where you can find anything. This is God’s field, and these are His berries; it is your privilege to gather them.’ Soon I seemed to be alone again. I heard them talking and laughing at the wagon. I inquired of those there: ‘What are you doing?’ They replied: ‘We could find no berries, and we thought we would eat dinner at the wagon. After a while of rest we will go out again.’ ‘But you have brought nothing, you are eating up all our supplies without bringing us more. I cannot eat now; there is too much fruit to be picked. You did not find it because you did not hunt close enough. They do not hang on the outside of the bushes; you must look for them.’ My little pail was soon filled with berries, and I took them to the wagon. I said: ‘This is the best fruit I ever picked, and I gathered it close by while you wandered far off and came back empty-handed.’
