What does Ellen White write about...

Ellen Gould White über: "Galatians 5:18 What does it mean to no longer be under the law?"

Answer

To no longer be "under the law" means that a believer is no longer subject to the condemnation and bondage of the law that arises from transgressions. When a person is guided by the Spirit of God, this leads them to a voluntary harmony with God's will, whereby the law no longer acts as an external burden but as a principle of freedom in the heart. Instead of seeking righteousness through one's own efforts, the believer receives the righteousness of Christ, which enables them to live in obedience without a sense of guilt.

The Guidance of the Spirit Frees from Condemnation

»“Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh... But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” In the first six of these verses, the class is presented that cannot enter the kingdom of God. Those who do the things listed here will not inherit this kingdom. But another class is presented that can enter the kingdom of God and ... and these are persons who seek moral suitability to stand in white robes of character around the great white throne.«

The Law as Bondage or Freedom

»Through perfect obedience to the demands of the law, a person is justified. Such obedience is possible only through faith in Christ... Those who believe in Christ and keep His commandments are not under the bondage of God's law; for those who believe and obey, His law is not a law of bondage but of freedom. Everyone who believes in Christ... becomes, through faith in Christ's atoning sacrifice, a partaker of the divine nature.«

Deliverance from Condemnation through the Gospel

»The law reveals a person's sins to them, but offers no remedy. While it promises life to obedience, it declares that death is the portion of the transgressor. Only the gospel of Christ can free a person from condemnation or the staining of sin... In the new birth, the heart is brought into harmony with God, as it is brought into alignment with His law. When this tremendous change has taken place in the sinner, he has moved from death to life.«

Righteousness through Faith rather than through Own Works

»The same law that was engraved on stone tablets is written by the Holy Spirit on the tablets of the heart. Instead of wandering about to establish our own righteousness, we receive the righteousness of Christ. His blood atones for our sins. His obedience is accepted for us. Then the heart renewed by the Holy Spirit will produce "the fruit of the Spirit." Through Christ's grace we will live in obedience to God's law, which is written in our hearts.«

The Law condemns the sinner but cannot save

»It is the law's task to condemn, but it has no power to forgive or redeem. It is ordained for life; those who walk in harmony with its precepts will receive the reward of obedience. But it brings bondage and death for those who remain under its condemnation... The law itself would have no glory except that Christ is embodied in it. It has no power to save.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
