From the Seventh-day Adventist perspective, resistance in the world is the result of the great conflict between Christ and Satan, in which the devil seeks to combat God's law and truth. This resistance arises in the hearts of fallen people who, incited by evil powers, reject God's plan of grace and the truth because it opposes their sinful nature. Therefore, the faithful followers of Christ and proclaimers of biblical truth in every age inevitably encounter the hostility of a world whose spirit is not in harmony with God.

The perversion of humanity and its resistance to truth make Christ's mission appear as what He announced to His disciples: the sending of a sword upon the earth; yet the strife is not the effect of Christianity, but the outcome of resistance in the hearts of those who do not wish to receive its blessings.
