Adventistische Schriften über: "For whom does Jesus come like a thief in the night?"
Answer
Jesus comes like a thief in the night for those who are not awake, who ignore warnings and lull themselves in false security. He surprises the godless, the scoffers, and those people who are completely absorbed in worldly pleasures, business, and the pursuit of wealth. Spiritual leaders and teachers who preach a message of “peace and security” are also caught unprepared by his sudden appearance.
A sudden disaster for the careless
»The day of God will come unexpectedly for the godless, whenever it may be. When life goes on in its unchanging routine; when people are engrossed in pleasure, business, trade, and making money; when religious leaders praise progress and enlightenment of the world and the people are lulled into false security – then, as the midnight thief slips into an unwatched house, sudden ruin will come upon the careless and godless, “and they will not escape.”«
»But for whom is he to come like a thief in the night? For the godless, for those who speak of peace and security; not for Christians who believe in God's Word and are found watching. “But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that that day may overtake you like a thief.” Who cannot see that a great distinction is made between the righteous and the godless regarding the suddenness of that day’s coming.«
»Christ’s coming will surprise the false teachers. They say, “peace and security.” Like the priests and teachers before the fall of Jerusalem, they expect the church to enjoy earthly prosperity and glory. … Over all who dwell on the face of the whole earth, over all who make this world their home, the day of God will come like a snare. He comes to them like a wandering thief.«
»At the time when the scoffer, the denier of truth, has become arrogant; when the routine of work in various areas of earning money is continued without regard to principles; when the student eagerly seeks knowledge about everything except his Bible, Christ comes like a thief.«
»“If you do not watch, I will come upon you like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.” The solemn warning is directed to those who refuse to awaken from their carefree security.«
»For those who do not look for the day of the Lord and naturally are not prepared, this day will come like a thief. They will be struck by his catastrophes, as the bird is caught in the “snare.”«
