What does EGW write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "For the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart"
Answer
The overflowing content of our heart directly determines our speech, as words serve as a mirror of the inner disposition. A sanctified heart produces pure, Christ‑focused words, while an unfaithful heart expresses itself in worldly conversations, pride, or criticism. Ultimately our words reveal whether we are truly converted, and we will be judged by them on the day of judgment.
The Language as a Mirror of the Heart
A good person brings forth from the good treasure of his heart that which is good; and an evil person brings forth from the evil treasure of his heart that which is evil; for the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart.
We are justified by our words and we will be condemned by our words... If [they] were truly converted, the mouth would speak from the fullness of the heart. Their conversation would not revolve around girlish follies, but about Jesus, His wonderful love and His redeeming power. The same source cannot produce both sweet and bitter water at the same time.
Words and deeds clearly testify to what is in the heart. If vanity and pride, self‑love and love of clothing fill the heart, the conversation will turn to fashions, clothing and appearance, but not to Christ or the kingdom of heaven... These thoughts flow from the fullness of the heart as if temporal things were the great goal of life.
The impossibility of good deeds arising from a sinful heart is illustrated so powerfully by the Savior... A person cannot do good until he first becomes good. Therefore deeds performed by a sinful person have no effect to make them righteous; rather, since they come from an evil heart, they are evil.
Whoever is not fully converted to the truth often lets his thoughts run free in worldly affairs... their tongues speak what is in their thoughts; hence these words about livestock, harvests, losses and gains. All this is a breach of the Sabbath. When the mind is occupied with worldly things, the tongue will reveal it, for the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart.
Our daily conversations, the thoughtless spoken words, we may consider of little value, but “for every useless word that people speak, they will have to give an account on the day of judgment”... Words are the index of the heart, “for the mouth speaks from the fullness of the heart”.
