Ellen Gould White über: "False revival among Adventists in the last days"
Answer
Before the true revival of piety among God's people occurs, Satan will try to prevent it by introducing a counterfeit movement. These false revivals are often characterized by emotional excitement and a mixing of truth and error, aimed at leading believers away from the clear Word of God. Many will mistakenly believe that God's special blessing is being poured out, while in reality a foreign spirit is at work.
Satan's falsification of the true revival
»The enemy of souls wants to hinder this work; and before the time for such a movement comes, he will try to prevent it by introducing a counterfeit. In those congregations that he can bring under his deceitful power, he will make it appear as if God's special blessing is being poured out; it will seem like great religious interest is being displayed. Crowds will rejoice, thinking that God is working wonderfully for them, when the work actually comes from another spirit. Under a religious cloak, Satan will attempt to extend his influence over the Christian world.«
Characteristics of emotional excitement and false fruit
»In many revivals that have taken place in the last half‑century, the same influences have been at work to a greater or lesser degree, which will manifest in the broader movements of the future. There is emotional excitement, a mixing of the true with the false, which is well suited to lead people astray. ... Wherever people neglect the testimony of the Bible and turn away from those clear, soul‑testing truths that require self‑denial and renunciation of the world, we can be sure that God's blessing will not be given.«
Fanaticism and the rejection of the Word of God
»At this time fanaticism began to appear. Some who claimed to be zealous believers of the message rejected the Word of God as the sole infallible guide and gave themselves, while claiming to be led by the spirit, control over their own feelings, impressions, and involvements. ... Their fanatic ideas and practices found no sympathy among the great majority of Adventists; nevertheless, they served to bring shame upon the cause of truth.«
Warning against unstable revival enthusiasm
»This fluctuating revival enthusiasm, which comes and goes like the tides, bears a deceptive appearance that leads many sincere persons to believe it is the true spirit of the Lord. It multiplies converts. People with excitable temperaments, the weak and the pliant, flock to its banner; but when the wave recedes, they are found stranded on the shore. Do not be deceived by false teachers.«
