What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Explain, from the perspective of the Adventist understanding, the background and significance of the parable in Matthew 12:43–45: An unclean spirit leaves a person, then returns with seven spirits even more wicked than itself, and that person’s last state is worse than the first. Include its application to that generation and the general spiritual lesson."
Answer
The parable warns that temporary deliverance from evil or outward reform is not enough if the heart remains empty and Christ does not dwell within. Applied to Jesus’ generation, it describes people who had experienced or accepted His message of deliverance but did not remain steadfastly devoted to God and eventually rejected Christ. The general spiritual lesson is this: the heart does not remain neutral. Lasting protection from evil comes through an ongoing connection with Christ, while persistent rejection of grace leads a person deeper into evil.
Temporary Deliverance Without Lasting Devotion
»There were many in the days of Christ, as there are many today, over whom the control of Satan for a time seemed broken; through the grace of God they were set free from the evil spirits that had held sway over the soul. They rejoiced in the love of God; but, like the stony-ground hearers of the parable, they did not continue in His love. They did not surrender themselves to God daily, that Christ might dwell in the heart; and when the evil spirit returned with “seven other spirits more wicked than himself,” they were wholly dominated by the power of evil.«
The Wicked Generation and the Enduring Warning
»The only defense against evil is the indwelling of Christ in the heart through faith in His righteousness. […] “The last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation,” said Jesus. […] In rejecting Christ, the Jewish people committed the unpardonable sin; we also may commit the same error by refusing the invitation of mercy.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
